A long time resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, Charles H. Atwell is the president & CEO of Innovative Business Interiors, Incorporated (IBI). IBI specializes in furniture and design solutions for business, education, healthcare and government for customers in the Washington area. Having held positions with other furniture dealerships over the last twenty-five years, he established IBI in 1990.

Atwell is currently a board member and former chairman of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and co-chairs the small business committee; a former chairman of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce and Silver Spring Urban District. He is vice-chairman of the board of directors of The Foundation Schools, board member of Montgomery Alliance for Giving and member of the board of Trustees of Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland.

He has been involved with various community committees that include the Silver Spring Police District Advisory Committee, the consensus effort for the Silver Spring Counseling and Renewal Center and the Silver Spring Community Vision Advisory Committee. He has also served on the Greater Silver Spring Committee, the Alternative Working Group for Downtown Silver Spring and the Silver Spring Redevelopment Advisory Board and a former Board member of the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County. Other volunteer activities have included the co-chairperson of the annual fund raising event for the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, DC metro Chapter held at the National Building Museum.

He is currently a member of the International Facility Management Association, International Interior Design Association, Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce, and Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce. A Leadership Montgomery 2006 graduate.

His hobbies include renovating houses; the current project is a house in Lewes, Delaware; genealogy, and collecting old books.
