Daniel G. (Dan) Waetjen is Group President for the Greater Washington DC Region of Branch Banking and Trust (BB&T), which encompasses BB&T community bank regions based in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. He is also responsible for corporate banking, commercial real estate and residential single-family construction, among other responsibilities. Mr. Waetjen assumed this role in 2007 after serving as Executive Vice President and Commercial Line of Business Manager for SunTrust Bank in Southwest Florida. He has over 25 years of financial services experience in the Washington, DC market and more than 35 years of experience in the banking industry overall.
Mr. Waetjen earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. and his master’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in corporate finance, from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Waetjen is a native Washingtonian. He serves as a member of several boards including the Smith School of Business Advisory Board at the University of Maryland, the Washington Trustees of the Federal City Council, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, Washington Airports Task Force, the Virginia Bankers Association and the Board of Directors for NAIOP of Northern Virginia.
