JEFF WEINGARTEN
President
Interface Media Group (IMG)
Jeff Weingarten is a media industry leader and a nationally recognized digital artist. He took over ownership of IMG in 2007 after spending 18 years helping the company design captivating visual effects for television, films, exhibits and commercials. Under Weingarten’s management IMG has furthered its leadership position by continually bringing new products and services to an ever-expanding market.
In his 23 years with IMG, he has helped advance the company to the forefront of an industry, which involves constant change, adaptation, and implementation of new technologies. IMG has actively pursued these advances as they have led the industry into nonlinear digital production, High Definition television, fiber and satellite distribution and Internet based digital media. Jeff’s understanding of these technologies, combined with an ability to maximize their potential in cost effective methodologies, has enabled the creation of visually exciting programming for numerous high profile clients on an international level.
Founded in 1977, IMG was created with a singular mission: to offer the professional communicators in the nation’s capital access to the then revolutionary technology known as computer assisted videotape editing. Due to its rapid growth, Interface moved in 1980 from its original 2500 square foot space to 13,000 in new quarters near Dupont Circle. Again in 1989 a second move was made two blocks south to its present 35,000 square foot space near 20th and M streets N.W., in the heart of the Golden Triangle, Washington’s prestigious center of trade associations, law firms and network news broadcast operations. A major full facility 10-month renovation & re-working of its core infrastructure was completed in September of 2011.
On the heels of that overhaul came the prestigious broadcasts commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9-11. Partnering with the Washington National Cathedral IMG produced weekend long, multiple LIVE events. The collapse of a 300-foot crane, in place to assess damage after a 5.8 earthquake struck Washington days earlier forced the closing of the Cathedral. IMG, with less than 48 hours notice moved a massive production south about 2 miles to the Kennedy Center. All events, including one with President Obama, went off without a hitch. Nothing short of extraordinary.
Tom Angell, the founder of Interface, was well versed in this esoteric branch of media production. He recognized the potential value of the process to political consultants and that this specialized type of media work was heavily centered in the Washington D.C. area. As a result, he made political advertising a key element of his business plan. Indeed, political advertising remains a major component of the business today.
In March of 2007, after thirty years of heading the company Mr. Angell sold the firm to Weingarten, then an 18-year employee. “Jeff is committed to offering a seamless continuum of services tailored to its clients’ evolving needs,” said Angell.
Throughout its 35-year history, the company has continued to serve as the leader within the professional film and television production community. All the while responsibly nurturing the business while maintaining an enviable financial record, balancing the needs of growth with those of profitability.
Weingarten earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, where he majored in radio, television and film. He resides in Maryland with his wife Ginger and their daughter.
