School's out, the summer is upon us, and it’s time to once again thank you, our loyal supporters. You made it possible for us to serve more than 37,000 youth this past academic year, a 10% increase. Close to 1,700 volunteers devoted countless hours ensuring that students received JA’s workforce readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship programs throughout the Region.
This effort is also accomplished by the talented and dedicated staff of Junior Achievement professionals who recruit and train our volunteers, distribute our curriculum materials, and coordinate with school systems, teachers, and administrators. I’m often asked what keeps them so passionate about our mission. My answer is simple: we’re the lucky ones, we witness daily the positive impact our 1,700 mentors have on young lives. We hear the stories, receive the letters, take the phone calls – all while we watch our programs mold futures. This is our motivation.
As we embark on plans for significant growth in the coming year, please know that we appreciate your support, and look forward to sharing our vision for the coming year in subsequent editions of this newsletter.
Relax and enjoy the summer.

Parent Tip:
One of the most important things you can do to ensure a successful financial life for your family is to protect your identity.
Talk with your child about identity theft. Take the FTC's online identity theft quiz to learn what to do if you become a victim of identity theft. The FTC provides information on its website (www.ftc.gov) that explains in depth the dangers of identity theft.

Teens Using Credit Cards to Buy Gas
Rising gas prices have caught up with America's teens, and teens appear to be filling up on debt to pay for gas. A new poll from Junior Achievement shows that nearly 70 percent of teens are using credit cards to buy gas, that's up from 52 percent in 2007 and 46 percent in 2006. Gas is now the top item teens buy with credit cards, surpassing "clothes," which had led the list in previous years.
