Dear Students,
Welcome to Junior Achievement Finance Park! We are excited for you to visit and learn more about personal budgeting and being a responsible adult.
Prior to arriving to Junior Achievement Finance Park, your teacher will assign you to a business. It is important you remember this assignment because that business will be your home base for the day. When you step off the bus, you will move through the reception area into the auditorium where you will learn more about your upcoming day at Finance Park. After the completion of the presentation, the sliding doors will open and you will move into the park to your assigned business. A volunteer will greet you and provide you with your Life Situation Card, which will provide information about how old you are, what your salary is, and how large your family is. Your objective will be to create a monthly budget for you and your family.
After performing some math calculations to determine your net monthly income and your budget guidelines, you will have a chance to visit all 19 businesses in Junior Achievement Finance Park. In each business you will collect an option sheet. These option sheets will provide you with – you guessed it – options for each item on your budget work sheet. After collecting option sheets from each storefront, you will return to your home base business and begin to review each option sheet, making choices for yourself and your family. Your volunteer will be able to help you along the way if you have questions as you move through the option sheets.
Upon completing your monthly budget, you will return to all the businesses to pay your bills. Checking out is a breeze; just make your way to the Budget Review & Checkout station and a teacher, volunteer, or JA staff member will review your work. Lunch will be during this part of the day, so remember to bring your lunch and a drink!
The Career Center is your next and final stop. You will have the chance to learn about different careers through videos and interactive websites, and to reflect on what you have learned over the course of the day. The entire experience will last four hours.
We look forward to welcoming you to Junior Achievement Finance Park soon!
