Giuseppe Cecchi, President of the IDI Group Companies, is the former President of Watergate Improvements, Inc., Watergate Construction Corp. and West Alexandria Properties, Inc.

Born in Milan, Italy, Cecchi graduated from the University of Milan in 1955 with a master in Professional Engineering. In 1960, he came to the United States to scout real estate investments for the firm of Societa’ Generale Immobiliare (SGI).

SGI’s initial venture in the Washington Metropolitan Area was the now-famous Watergate project on the Potomac. Cecchi directed this first mixed-use development in Washington combining offices, residences, shops and hotels. Following Watergate, Cecchi developed Watergate at Landmark, an award-winning condominium community of 1,400 units in Alexandria, Virginia.

In 1975, Cecchi left SGI to form International Developers, Inc. (IDI). Since then, IDI has grown and diversified into the IDI Group Companies, and has become one of the outstanding real estate developers in the Metropolitan Area.

Cecchi has been actively involved as a Board Member or Trustee in numerous business and charitable organizations, including the Greater Washington Board of Trade, Federal City Council, Catholic University, National Capital Children’s Museum, George Mason University and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He has received the D.C. Building Industry Award, the Amerito Christopher Columbus Award and awards from the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, the Congressional Institute for Space Science and Technology among many others. He has been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the metropolitan area’s building associations for continuous exemplary service to the industry.

He and his wife, Mercedes, live in McLean, Virginia. They have four sons and eleven grandchildren.
