JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF THE NATIONAL CAPITAL AREA ANNOUNCES FIVE INDUCTEES INTO THE WASHINGTON BUSINESS HALL OF FAME
Washington, DC - Five visionary leaders will be inducted into the Washington Business Hall of Fame by co-founding organizations Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area, The Washingtonian, and the Greater Washington Board of Trade, on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. The Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding business and community leadership over a career span of service in Greater Washington. The 21st annual Washington Business Hall of Fame Dinner will be attended by over 1,200 people at the Hilton Washington Hotel; proceeds benefit Junior Achievement’s mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. The 2009 Washington Business Hall of Fame Laureates are:
David G. Bradley, Chairman, Atlantic Media. Before entering media, Mr. Bradley founded and owned two (now public) think tanks – The Advisory Board Company and the Corporate Executive Board. Mr. Bradley has served on the boards of Georgetown University, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and Sunrise Assisted Living.
Margery Kraus, President and CEO, APCO. Ms. Kraus founded APCO Worldwide, a global consulting firm specializing in public affairs, communication and business consulting, in 1984. The firm has offices in major cities throughout the world. Ms. Kraus assisted in the creation and development of the educational Close Up Foundation.
Barbara J. Krumsiek, President and CEO, Calvert. Calvert Group, Ltd., an investment management firm, oversees approximately $12 billion in assets including equity, bond, and money market portfolios. Ms. Krumsiek has served on the boards of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., and Federal City Council.
Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, Chairman and CEO, Booz Allen Hamilton. Dr. Shrader has led Booz Allen through a significant period of growth to become the leading strategy and technology consulting firm with sales of over $4 billion. Before he joined Booz Allen, Dr. Shrader was the National Director of Advanced Systems Planning for Western Union.
J. Knox Singleton, President and CEO, Inova Health System. Through Mr. Singleton’s stewardship for the past 24 years, Inova Health System has pursued its not-for-profit mission of providing health care to all, regardless of ability to pay, while offering state-of-the-art medical care to the residents of Northern Virginia.
Welcoming the five laureates will be Leon Harris, Anchor, ABC 7/WJLA-TV and NewsChannel 8, 2009 Hall of Fame event chairman Allen R. Westergard, Office Managing Partner, Tysons Corner, of KPMG LLP, and Edward J. Grenier III, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area.
