When students at the Friendship Woodridge International Public Charter School asked, what is a supply chain and how are taxes calculated, they were met by 39 Howard University School of Business students. These students explained concepts of business and economics to them using the Junior Achievement® (JA) curriculum and their own experience and training as business students at one of the nation’s premier universities.

GEICO has recently agreed to expand their partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington to serve as the JA Finance Park® Insurance storefront partner in the forthcoming JA Finance Park Montgomery County, opening in 2018.  In addition to committing to the new JA Finance Park Montgomery County partnership, GEICO has renewed their investment as the Insurance storefront partner at JA Finance Park® Prince George's County.

Marymount University teams up with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington to serve as Education Storefront partner at JA Finance Park® Fairfax County

Marymount University has agreed to partner with JA of Greater Washington to help educate middle schoolers about the costs of furthering their education and the value of a world-class college education in achieving their dreams.  Marymount University will serve as the Education Storefront partner at JA Finance Park in Fairfax County, Virginia.   

MCPS: School, Community Leaders Break Ground on a New School for Edison High

School and community leaders will join staff and students on Thursday, November 3 at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Thomas Edison High School of Technology. High school students at all MCPS schools have the option to apply for enrollment in one of Edison’s 17 career and technology programs. Students attend Edison every day for three class periods and earn 1.5 credits per semester. In addition to providing valuable professional certifications and licenses, students also may earn college credit.

These life lessons are possible thanks to a new partnership between Wolf Trap and Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, whose JA Finance Park® program provides financial literacy curriculum and immersive, real-life budgeting simulations to all 14,000 Fairfax County eighth grade students each year.

BALTIMORE SUN: Dwight Eisenhower eighth graders learn lesson in money management

Courtney Houston, an eight-grader at Dwight Eisenhower Middle School in Laurel, walked into the Junior Achievement Finance Park in Landover Thursday morning for a school field trip. For the next four hours, Houston said, she would take on the financial responsibilities of an adult with her own simulated credit score, career and salary, spouse, children and debt history.
