Build a bridge from the classroom to the future for our region's young people by serving as an in-classroom JA® volunteer. We provide the training and curriculum. You provide your time, energy, and life experience to show these kids that with hard work, anything is possible. During your volunteer experience, you will guide students through topics on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.
After four weeks of
in-classroom personal finance curriculum taught by their teacher, students will put their skills to the test during this one-day culminating event. As a JA Finance Park® volunteer, you will guide them through their given life scenario and the day's budgeting activities, stopping along the way to share your own perspective to bring JA Finance Park® to life.
There's no better way to show a group of young people a possible path to their American Dream than the JA Job Shadow™. As a JA Job Shadow™ volunteer, you and your colleagues will host a group of students at your workplace, giving them an inside look at the world of work and reflecting on your own experiences that led you down your chosen career path.
Traditional (Weekly visits)
The weekly Junior Achievement® program takes place in a child's classroom, during which volunteers present one of JA®'s proven financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs to a K-12 classroom on a weekly basis, coordinating the schedule with the teacher. Volunteers and teachers work together to mutually arrange the required number of sessions, taking into account the classroom schedule and volunteer's work schedule.
1 hour, scheduled at your convenience
30-60 minutes prior to each visit to the classroom
30-55 minutes, generally once-a-week, for 5-12 weeks depending on the chosen program
JA® in a day (One Day visit)
The JA® in a Day program takes place in a child's classroom, during which volunteers present Junior Achievement curriculum to students in kindergarten through eighth grade in a one-day format. JA® staff works directly with the school to arrange an event date. The volunteers cover all lessons in one visit and can teach in pairs.
1 hour, scheduled at your convenience
2-5 hours prior to the JA in a Day event
4-5 hours. The teacher will be in the classroom at all times. Lunch and other breaks will be taken according to the normal classroom schedule
JA Finance Park® (One Day visit)
One day, these students will lead. But first, they will practice within the walls of JA Finance Park®. Before their culminating experience at JA's state-of-the-art financial literacy facility, middle school students will first complete four weeks of in-classroom curriculum taught by their teacher. Topics provide students with a basis of personal finance knowledge-- from the difference between debt and credit to investing and pay taxes. At the end of their classroom curriculum, students travel to JA Finance Park® where they leave behind their lives as students and receive a tablet computer with a life scenario that includes a career, family situation, salary, credit score, and other information. During their four hour simulation, led by a volunteer like you, students make the same types of financial decisions that you and I make... choosing a mortgage and a car, budgeting for child care and entertainment, purchasing groceries, and even adjusting when an unexpected monthly expense arises. Volunteers help students with their decisions and share their own life experiences to give the choices context and make the experience more authentic for these young people.

JA Job Shadow™ (One Day visit)
Together with your colleagues at your workplace, you can give our region's young people a look into a possible career for a day. JA Job Shadow™ prepares high school students to be entrepreneurial thinkers and encourages them to develop personal strategies to pursue lifelong learning and career opportunities. Through one day, on-site experiences, students learn practical business skills such as dressing and speaking professionally, being on time, working as part of a team, and providing effective customer service. These real world skills are enhanced with classroom lessons and follow-up activities.
2-3 hours to be completed prior to your scheduled event date
5-6 hours of agenda items to be divided and covered by participating JA Job Shadow™ volunteers
