Michael N. Harreld
Immediate Past President, PNC Bank, Greater Washington Area
Michael N. Harreld is the immediate past president of PNC Bank in the Greater Washington Region and currently serves as special advisor to the chairman of The PNC Financial Services Group. As president, he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of PNC’s operations in Greater Washington, including Retail Banking, Corporate & Institutional Banking, Wealth Management and community-based activities. Harreld joined Citizens Fidelity Bank in Louisville, Kentucky (predecessor to PNC) in 1969 and in succeeding years had varied executive responsibilities. He was named president of Citizens Fidelity Corp. in 1986. He became president and chief executive officer in 1989 and was appointed regional president of PNC in Greater Washington in 2005.
Harreld has been active in a multitude of civic affairs, particularly in higher education, where he served as a member of the boards of four Kentucky universities. Currently, he serves on the boards of the Federal City Council, United Way of the National Capital Area, the Economic Club of Washington DC, The Meyer Foundation, Raise DC and HEROES, Inc.
For his considerable civic activities, he has received a variety of special honors including the DC Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year and Leadership Greater Washington Private Sector Innovator of the Year. Other honors include: Louisvillian of the Year Award; Distinguished Alumnus Awards from the University of Louisville Law School and its College of Arts and Sciences; the Metropolitan Housing Coalition’s Award for his persistent commitment to affordable housing programs and issues; and he was inducted into the Kentucky Business Hall of Fame.
Harreld received his B.A. degree in history and political science from the University of Louisville in 1966 and his J.D. degree from the University of Louisville Law School in 1969.
