Greater Washington Futures (November): Ignite

Ignite

For many of our region's students, the ladder to the American Dream has become too steep to climb. Their ability to succeed is hampered by the gap between what's taught in the classroom and skills they need to succeed in the modern economy. A new Champlain College study measuring how well U.S. high schools are providing personal finance education gave nearly one-quarter of states and the District a failing grade.

INSPIRING AN ENTREPRENEURIAL JA® GENERATION
As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, JA® worked with local high schools to connect their students with entrepreneurs who could share their story and lessons they've learned while pursuing their path to their own American Dream. Patrick Dean, President of Associated Builders and Contractors - Virginia Chapter and founder of Rip City gyms, spoke with students at Freedom High School in Loudoun County. "Every day, someone has a great idea. It might not be world-changing, but it could be community-changing," he said to a group of Future Business Leaders of America. JA® looks to growing this annual event in the future to connect more students with real-life mentors who can inspire them to succeed. Read more >>
